The ReStore Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the ReStore and ensures the ReStore, a social enterprise, is fully supportive of the affiliate’s vision and goals, and that it complements the affiliate’s fundraising and building activities.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties:
A. Sales & Customer Experience
• Collaborating with Leadership Team to advertise and publicize the ReStore operations and its products. • Leading a consistent focus on ReStore customer experience. • Analyzing the business and creating clear actions plans that optimize results and ensure effective execution of all operational activities. • Working daily to ensure retail sales are maximized through best practices. • Ensuring every worker (paid or unpaid) provides a superior customer experience to all customers. • Provides effective support to potential donors, volunteers, and families. B. Inventory & Merchandising • Ensuring all products are priced appropriately and that all associates follow pricing procedures. • Ensuring inventory flow through to purchase. • Working to provide the best merchandising layout to maximize sales and ensure safety and a great customer, staff and volunteer experience. • Managing donation procurement. • Collaborating with Leadership Team to develop and manage successful donation and salvage programs. • Collaborating with Leadership Team to assess the demand for specific used and surplus products and materials. • Developing, implementing, and managing a robust procurement strategy. • Ensuring all materials and products donated are of resale quality. • Ensuring that all staff and volunteers remove all donor commercial identification marks and UPC’s on donated materials for sale. • Maintaining and communicating all intake guidelines and procedures for all associates. • Minimizing the cost of the disposal of unsold products in a manner that does not compromise the desired corporate image for Habitat for Humanity.
C. Safety & Warehouse Maintenance • Ensuring all associates (staff and volunteers) receive SHE training and all staff receive WHMIS training. • Ensuring all staff, volunteers and customers follow to our safety policies. • Ensuring there are clear aisles free of product or any other safety hazard. • Working to keep the entire store including bathrooms, staff area and all merchandising units clean. • Maintaining and makes improvements to the physical warehouse to improve operations, following yearly warehouse maintenance schedule including such things as fire extinguishers, fire alarms, truck maintenance, etc. • Overseeing and ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all staff, volunteers and shoppers and ensures appropriate steps are followed when safety concerns arise. • Completing all incidence report forms (internal and external) and submits them to the Director of Operations.
D. Volunteer Program - in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator • Managing all volunteers in the ReStore, recognizing the critical role for volunteers in the ReStore organization and takes positive steps to develop and nurture these volunteers. • Ensuring all volunteers receive interviews before starting in the ReStore and have scheduled feedback sessions. • Ensuring the implementing and continuous improvement of the ReStore Volunteer Program. • Working to recruit, train, manage and recognize all volunteers in meaningful ways. • Ensuring effective communication between staff, volunteers and management including conducting daily briefings and monthly staff meetings which the volunteers are invited to as well.
E. Finance & Administration • Maximizing effectiveness and efficiency of operations to enhance profitability/contribution to mission. • Creating monthly ReStore reports that communicate the current state of the ReStore. • Ensuring compliance with all financial reporting practices including the reconciling of daily sales, the daily closing out of all financial transactions, daily bank deposits, and the preparation of all invoices for payment. • Establishing the value of all gift-in-kind donations ensuring compliance with existing policies and Canadian Revenue Agency regulations. • Ensuring all staffing, volunteer, and donation reporting logs are completed and sent to the Director of Operations. • Ordering supplies in a timely manner and ensuring budgets are adhered to. • Creating and posting weekly staff and volunteer schedules and sends bi-weekly payroll reports to the Finance & Risk Manager. • Collaborating with Leadership Team to develop annual budget requests that meet the strategic and operational plans.
F. Human Resources • Attracting, hiring, developing, inspiring, and retaining talent. • Interviewing and recommending to the Director of Operations all new hires with the goal of building a team that collaboratively to meet the needs of the store. • Training, orienting, scheduling, and supervising all ReStore staff and volunteers. • Conducts all annual and 3 month ReStore staff performance and compensation reviews, subject to prior approval by Director of Operations. • Ensuring that all Human Resources policies and procedures are followed. • Ensuring staff are aware of all communications from the Habitat affiliate office. • Leading daily staff & volunteer briefings and monthly staff meetings.
G. Knowledge of Brand and Products
Promoting Habitat for Humanity Vision, Mission and Values
Promoting ReStore as the HFHSSMA Social Enterprise that generates revenue for builds
Promoting the use of the Processing Centre for high quality donations
Performing additional duties as assigned
Minimum Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 5-years’ experience in retail customer service
Minimum 3-years’ experience in retail management/supervision
Criminal Records Check is required as a condition of placement
