Soo Burger Month fundraiser will help build homes and support local restaurants!

Do you own or manage a local restaurant? Your burgers can help build homes!

Habitat for Humanity Sault Ste. Marie & Area is inviting local restaurants to partner with them on an exciting new event that encourages Saultites to #SupportLocal and #SupportHabitat!

The event, called Soo Burger Month, is sponsored by OutSpoken Brewing. The month-long event asks restaurants to get creative and design a tasty new burger (or choose an existing one from their menu) to offer throughout the entire month of October. Restaurants will donate a minimum of $1 to Habitat from every Soo Burger Month burger sold to support affordable homeownership in our community.

“This event was inspired by Halifax Burger Week, which has seen amazing success in raising funds for Feed Nova Scotia since 2013. We’re excited to try it out in the Sault. The pandemic has been difficult for all of us, and this is a great opportunity to do some much-needed fundraising for Habitat while supporting local restaurants,” states Chelsey Foucher, Fundraising & Marketing Coordinator.

Habitat will guide local foodies to participating restaurants with a Soo Burger Month passport, which will feature all participating restaurants and the burgers they are offering. The fundraiser will be spiced up with a little competition, too. Restaurants can compete to win the Best Burger Award, as voted on by customers, and Most Burgers Sold Award.

OutSpoken Brewing will be donating a portion of proceeds from all sales of their Anvil Red Ale throughout the month of October ($0.50 of every can of Anvil sold and $1 of every glass of Anvil sold from the brewery) and will be accepting additional donations to Habitat at their Queen Street location.

“We are incredibly excited to be working with Habitat for Humanity Sault Ste. Marie and Area! Soo Burger Month is going to provide us with an opportunity to showcase so many of the fabulous local restaurants here in the Sault – and enjoy delicious burgers and beer while we’re at it! Habitat does so much for the families in our community and we are very grateful to be able to support their initiatives!” states Kaitlynn Cruickshank, Events Coordinator at OutSpoken Brewing.
